Easter Eggheads

Easter Saturday we were invited to the Irvington United Methodist Church egg hunt by Carolyn and Mark. This is the second year they've organized the group of friends to join in this event.

(Evalyn is hiding in Carolyn's coat!)

She had invited other friends of ours as well, so it made for a really fun day. Thomas was shy at first, didn't want to be put down. However, as soon as the hunt started, he was ready to get up against the fence for the start.

When he heard the word "go," Thomas sprinted out to find those eggs. The kids were excited about them, but I found that it took a lot of help to get them to understand about finding the eggs. They were all quite quite excited about what was in them though. Veronica had to be reminded to find more eggs before opening each egg she found.

Once the hunt was over, the kids enjoyed some time on the playground.

Then, it was off to Jockamo's Pizza for a delicious lunch with over 21 of us! Mark treated - such a nice Easter treat!

From Jockamo's we loaded up and headed to Madison to visit Mama and Daddy Gayle. Daddy Gayle greeted us at the door. After properly hugging him, the twins got focused: "Let's find Mama. Let's go!" said Thomas.

Mama had put together a fun Easter basket for the kids. It had a bunny on the front. She sang, "Here Comes Peter Cottontail" all the way down the hall while bringing them the basket. It was full of treats - "chocwat" (a favorite), birds that chirp, and some cute summer outfits.

Watching the kids eat all those treats must have made Mama hungry, because she was ready to go out to eat! The kids made a new friend at the restaurant, and did not want to leave him:

After we filled our bellies with a round of hot-fudge cakes, we went back to the ranch to rest a little:

Thomas went on a hunt for clues:

We spent some time playing in Daddy's old stomping ground (the backyard):

We left in enough time to let Veronica and Thomas visit with Grandma and Pa a little for heading to bed. While they played with my parents, Judson and I went to the Easter Vigil at St. Joe's at Four Corners. It was the longest service I'd ever been to (8:45 - almost midnight), but it was beautiful and well done. I saw a friend get baptised before they baptised his infant daughter. We also were present for the sacrament of marriage for a couple who had teenage kids but were married civilly.

Sunday included brunch at Pa and Grandma's with Danny and Dawn. The afternoon was spent at a spectacular Easter party thrown by Thad and Paula, hosted by Lori and Greg. Lori and Greg's new place was beautiful - 1841 home, pond, woods, garden, and Easter eggs to hunt! We started with a little sidewalk chalk.

Then headed down to the pond. Judson got the record for number of times a rock skipped that day. It was 7 or more. Thomas was pleased to try his hand at hunting rocks and throwing them into the water. Nicki did some gymnastics and Veronica tried to duplicate.

We then set out on the hunt for eggs. Nicki was so patient and did a good job at sharing eggs with the kids. She even helped them find them.

"Come on, Aunt Dawn. We have to get all the good eggs!"

It was a busy weekend - down to the trip home. The entire ride, Veronica read books out loud (very loudly): "And then the monkey road the bike. And then the bear went into the house. And then... And then..." Thomas sang the entire soundtrack of Mary Poppins - down to the "ahs" in "Feed the Birds." The most entertaining ride we've had yet! Easter is about new life and blessings. We sure are blessed by ours!
