Country Roads, Take Me Home

After letting Veronica and Thomas navigate (yes, they were reading the maps), we made it as far as Berea, KY before stopping for the evening.

After a good night's sleep, we headed to an art festival in Berea. The kids enjoyed getting involved in the art themselves, painting a horse.

The kids hadn't been asleep long when we hit Lexington, so we decided it was best to drive through (not surprising relatives) and let the kids sleep... otherwise the rest of the trip could be loooooong. We were driving down the main road when I noticed a cemetery. I started, "Hey, isn't that..." Judson nodded and at that time, and before either of us could mention Thomas Riley, his namesake woke. We saw that as an invitation to head in and look for the stone. We couldn't find it, having never been to it before, so we called Aunt Margaret. She was available AND we were able to see Judson's cousin, Susannah, and her children, Carolyn and Robert.
The twins enjoyed the company tremendously. Robert entertained them on banjo and with juggling. Carolyn, who had won their hearts two years prior, picked up where she left off. The kids did not want to leave them!

We hit the road in time to have supper in the car and make it to Madison for a visit with Mama and Daddy Gayle. The kids were so happy to spend the day with so many loving people that it made it easier to leave the week they'd grown accustomed to.
We finally made it home - and were happy to be there.
